dramaturg Mart-Matteus Kampus

Mart-Matteus Kampus is an Estonian-born filmmaker, writer, and theatre practitioner. He graduated from the MFA writers program at the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama in London. Working both on commercial and independent projects, Kampus’ work revolves around magical realism and fantasy, psychological horror and personal texts that explore isolation, alienation and their relationship with hope as well as projects about the Eastern European mindset and culture.

Kampus has been previously published in the Aberystwyth University MA Anthology, The Write Launch, and NoiseMedium magazine. His most recent poetry, which depicts the life of a small town in Estonia, was published by Minor Literature[s]. In 2015, Mart collaborated on a show for the Project Space gallery in Vancouver, Canada. His screenplay ‘Roots’ ranked in the top 20% of 8,191 scripts at the 2021 Academy Nicholl Fellowships and surpassed 1,750 other screenplays to reach the second round of the 2022 BBC Studios Writers Academy.
He hosts the top 10 charting improvisational podcast ‘Ebaõnne 13’ and occasionally performs on his mildly-successful comedy YouTube channel.

Working on his debut novel and on various film and TV projects, Kampus is also the resident dramaturg at Paide Theatre and a member of the Estonian Directors and Dramaturgs Union.
